Frank Kim, CISO-in-Residence at YL Ventures, supports cybersecurity entrepreneurs with ideation and market research, conducts due diligence for potential investments, and provides meaningful guidance on go-to-market activities for the firm’s portfolio companies. In addition to his role at YL Ventures, Franks serves as a Fellow at the SANS Institute, leading the cloud security and CISO cybersecurity leadership curricula to help shape and develop the next generation of security leaders. Previously, he served as the organization’s CISO where he led the information risk function for the most trusted source of cybersecurity training and certification in the world. Prior to joining the SANS Institute, he served as the Executive Director of Cybersecurity at Kaiser Permanente, where he built innovative security programs to meet the unique needs of America’s largest not-for-profit health plan. Frank also serves as an advisor to numerous security startups, and authors and teaches courses on CISO leadership, strategic planning, DevSecOps, and cloud security. Frank is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied Ethnic Studies and Business Administration.
