Wilfried Karl is the founding director of Germany’s Zentrale Stelle fuer Informationstechnik im Sicherheitsbereich (ZITiS, Central Office for Information Technology in the Security Domain), since June 1st 2017. From 1993 to 2017 he held various Positions within the german foreign intelligence service (Bundesnachrichten­dienst), from signals analyst to acting head of the signals intelligence directorate. Before he worked as a freelance engineer. Mr. Karl received his university diploma in electrical engineering from the Friedrich-Alexander-University in Erlangen (Bavaria). From 1984 to 1985 he served in the armed forces. He is born in 1965 and lives in the Munich region.
